April marks the month when plans are put in place and seeds sown to maximise the harvest of fruit and vegetables in the summer months for preserving for later in the year. Fruit and veg sown now will be frozen, dehydrated, pickled or turned into delicious homemade jams and chutneys here at The Yorkshire Preservatory.

Red peppers and chillis

I've been busy this afternoon transforming some red chillies and peppers into pots of fiery winter warmers.  Last week I started off my chilli plants; Jalepeno, Hot Thai and Orange Scotch Bonnet. This year's supply is still going strong so I thought Chilli and Pepper Jam was a great way to use some of them. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather this summer. It's almost possible to forget that we do get sunshine in Yorkshire, but my chilli stash is proof of it.
